Believe it or not, oil is not an infinite resource. There will be a world wide crisis, if we do not find a new power source soon. As huge industry powers its way into the new century, it is expected a billion new motor cars will be produced in the next 20 years. This combined with the many others uses for oil, reserves will dwindle dangerously low by the middle of this century.
Imagine a world without oil, oil tankers would cease to exist.
Plastic would not be produced meaning no new computers, telephones and a myriad of other things. All machines would grind to a halt. Trains, trucks, planes, ships would no longer be able to produce and transport the food. Our systems of law enforcement would be overwhelmed by people desperate to eat, food riots would result in anarchy. World commerce would disappear,as humanity took a step back into the middle ages.
We must seriously consider alternatives to oil for our long term survival. There are many options, but billions of dollars must be directed in these areas, to develop the technology, to the point where it can be used efficiently.
